Pocket Philharmonic presents Old School-New Faces
In a new collaboration between Nova Linea Musica (NLM) and Guarneri Hall, NLM Artists in Residence and virtuosic performers, violinist Rabia Brooke and cellist Alexander Hersh will join Guarneri Hall’s Pocket Philharmonic at the Old Town School of Folk Music on October 4th to present Old School-New Faces.The concert will feature Rabia as soloist for Beethoven’s Romance No. 1 for violin and orchestra and Alex as soloist on Haydn’s cello concerto in C major. The program will also include a short work by the iconic Hungarian composer György Ligeti and new works by contemporary composers Clarice Assad and Paul Wiancko.
Rabia and Alex will lead the events for a younger cohort from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM and for an older group from 11 AM to 12 Noon. The two soloists will use their experiences working with their composer friends Clarice Assad and Paul Wiancko as the springboard for discussions about how music is personal for all of us.
The Formosa Quartet and Rabia Brooke take you on a journey of new music from Clarice Assad, Derrick Skye, and An American Roadmap.

Presented by the Chinese Fine Arts Society and featuring the Rabia Brooke on the World Premiere of of Lei-Liang’s Mongolian Suite for Violin, and a performance of Mongolian folk-fusion music from Tuvergen band. Rabia and Lei will also sit down before the concert for a pre-concert Q and A to discuss what it is like to commission and compose a piece, where the inspiration for this piece came from, and more.

Rabia Tours Europe with Black Oak Ensemble and Indian-American pianist Pallavi Mahidhara December 3rd - 14th, 2023. Rabia's graduation recital at The Juilliard School will feature newly-commissioned works for solo violin by Brazillian-American composer Clarice Assad and Australian Elizabeth Younan.
At our May 19 concert at Orchestra Hall, 18 year old Rabia Brooke will perform Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor. Rabia was one of the winners of our 2018 Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, and is currently co-concertmaster in the ensemble.
